Fun Day Monday… fun with play doh

Happy Monday to you all…. I hope that you have had a good week and that you are ready for more fun and games this week.

We have been having fun with play doh in my childminding service recently which has been a great sensory experience for the children. If you don’t have pots of the play doh that you can buy you can always make your own with this simple play doh recipe:

  • 250g plain flour
  • 50g salt
  • 140ml water
  • 1 – 2 tablespoons of cooking oil
  • Few drops of food colouring (optional)

and all you do is:

  • Mix together the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl
  • Add the water and oil
  • Knead well until mixture is smooth (this may take 10 minutes and you might need to add a bit more flour or water until the consistency is smooth but not sticky)
  • Add food colouring and knead until the colour is fully blended
  • Store in a plastic bag in the fridge until chilled enough to use
We got out lots of cookie cutters and different bottle caps and cut up straws to encourage imaginative play with the play doh…. the children were making birthday cakes and using the straws to make candles!
You will note that there is a mat underneath the table…. play doh is sticky stuff that can get everywhere so it’s worth taking precautions if you don’t want to be clearing it up for days!!
