Fun Day Monday

Today’s post is a little late as the fun that I am writing about actually took place today!

My little one likes to help out in the kitchen but trying to think of toddler friendly things for him to do can sometimes be hard. Well, today we came up with something really easy for him and I to do together and he had so much fun.

We made some cheese and onion pastries together which he then munched his way through for lunch!

If you fancy a go at doing this then you will need:

  • An apron
  • Some puff pastry (I use one that you can buy in the chiller cabinet in the supermarket)
  • Some cheese – grated
  • Some onion – pre cooked in a little bit of oil
  • A dusting of plain flour
  • A splash or two of olive oil
  • A rolling pin
  • A circular cutter
  • A  pastry brush
  • A tin like a large muffin tin

and this is what you do:

  • Wash your hands and your little one’s hands and put on an apron
  • Place a dusting of flour on a hard surface and place the puff pastry on top  (I used a board and put it on our little table)
  • Get your little one to squish the pastry a bit so that they can feel it (my little one said, “ooo, play doh!!”.
  • Dust the rolling pin and then show your little one how to roll out the pastry

  • Now get the cutter and cut out some circles and put to one side (we only did 4 as that was all of the pastry that we had)
  • Put some oil in the muffin tin and get your little one to “paint” the tin with  the pastry brush
  • Place the circles of pastry into the muffin tin and prick each one several times with a fork (this was a good counting exercise!)
  • Get your little one to put a spoonful of cooked onion onto each circle of pastry
  • Now give them the grated cheese to put on top of the onions

  • Place in the oven at about 180c for about 20 minutes or so (until golden)
  • Take out of the oven and allow to cool before serving them…. ENJOY!
