Fun Day Monday

It’s well and truly Autumnal out there so we have been doing lots of Autumn related activities here in my childminding service.

Something that we did last week that was popular with the children was some tree pictures that we painted using corks! The children had so much fun dipping the corks in the paint and stamping them around the branches and trunk of their tree.

If you want a go at making similar pictures with your little one you will need the following:

  • Brown paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Glue
  • Corks (I used champagne corks, one for each colour)
  • A container for your paint
  • Paint (I used red, yellow and copper)
  • White sheet of A4
  • Apron

and you need to do the following:

  • Firstly draw around your little one’s arm and hand on the brown piece of paper to make your tree and the branches. Cut this out and stick onto the middle of your white piece of paper
  • Place blobs of paint in the container (not too much!)
  • Place the corks on top of each coloured blob
  • Put the apron on your little one and then show them with one of the corks how to stamp a “leaf” onto their tree
  • Let them go for it with the corks and paint!!

Warning: This activity can get pretty messy but they really do have so much fun stamping out their trees….. if you don’t manage to do an Autumn tree you can always change the colours of your paint to green, white and pink and do a tree in blossom in the Springtime!
