The ABCs of Christmas…… H is for HOLLY

Holly is one of those things that I associate with Christmas and as a child I would always try to draw some on my Christmas cards to my friends… not always successfully!

A fun activity to do with your little one is to make a potato print holly wreath.

For this you will need:

  • A potato
  • A knife (for adult use only!)
  • Green Paint in a shallow tray
  • Red Paint in a shallow tray
  • Apron
  • Paper or card
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • A stiff piece of card cut into a ring

And you will need to do the following:

  • Using the knife, cut out a holly leaf shape on the potato – it might be easier to draw one on first
  • Put the apron on your little one
  • Give your little one the potato stamp and the green paint and get them to stamp lots of holly leaves on the paper or card
  • Now get your little one to dip their finger in the red paint and make fingerprint berries at the bottom of each leaf
  • Once the leaves have dried cut them all out
  • Stick the holly leaves onto the card ring
  • Now put your wreath up somewhere for all to admire!
