Fun Day Monday

Hello, Happy Monday to you! How has your week been?

We’ve been having fun exploring sounds in my childminding service and want to share one of our fun activities with you. We have been learning that the sound “a” is for “ant” and we made our very own ants to reinforce our learning.

Cute little chap isn’t he?

If you want to make your own you will need:

  • An egg box
  • Scissors
  • Black paint
  • Paintbrush (or in the case of my little one… fingers!)
  • An apron
  • Coloured pipe cleaners
  • Stickers for eyes
and this is what you do:
  • Using the scissors,┬ácut out 3 egg cups in a row from the egg box
  • Let your little one paint the egg box with the black paint (with their apron on!) – this is the ant’s body
  • Allow the ant’s body to dry
  • Once the paint has dried poke holes along the side of the egg box (I poked three holes down each side). You also need to poke two holes in the top of the front egg cup
  • Cut each pipe cleaner in half
  • Now thread the pipe cleaners through the holes to make the legs
  • Poke a pipe cleaner of a different colour through the two holes on the top and curl them to create the antennae
  • Add the stickers (I used hole reinforcement rings) to make your ant’s eyes
The children really enjoyed making these and have enjoyed playing with them since we made them too. I hope you have fun if you have a go at making one too.
