Fun Day Monday

How much fun did we have exploring our Very Hungry Caterpillar theme last week? The children loved the feed me caterpillar that we made… especially when I made it gobble up the fruit disks!

One other activity that we did last week was create our own named caterpillars which gave us the opportunity to do a bit of letter recognition and use up some of our milk bottle tops!

If you want to make your own name caterpillar you will need the following:

  • Green card with a leaf printed or drawn onto it
  • 1 red bottle top
  • Enough green bottle tops to spell out your little one’s name
  • A permanent marker
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue
  • Piece of paper or card

and you will need to do the following:

  • Stick the googly eyes onto the red bottle top
  • Draw a smile onto the red bottle top using the permanent marker
  • Spell out your child’s name onto the green bottle tops using one top per letter
  • Write your child’s name onto the piece of paper or card
  • Show your child their name and then show them the bottle tops with the letters on and get them to recognise the letters and attempt to put them into the right order on the leaf
  • Stick the caterpillar’s face on to the leaf followed by the letters of their name

A simple but fun activity to do and if you put it on display you can keep reinforcing letter and name recognition with your little one too.
