Fun Day Monday

Have you tried out any of our caterpillar activities yet? Although World Book Day has passed we are still having lots of caterpillar fun here in my childminding service and last week we made some caterpillar collages. The children had great fun using the glue sticks and pieces of green paper to make these very cute caterpillars:

If you would like to make some too they are very simple and lots of fun.

You will need the following:

  • Red card or paper – cut into a circle
  • Purple card or paper – cut into 2 x¬†antennas
  • Yellow card or paper – cut into 2 x eye shapes
  • Green card or paper – cut into 2 x pupils of the eyes
  • Assorted pieces of green paper, card, tissue paper and foam
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • White card

and you need to do the following:

  • Put glue onto the shapes used for the face and either put them in place for your little one on the white card or get them to do it. I found that the younger children needed help with this part of the task but the older ones were able to do it with little guidance.
  • Give your little one the glue stick and get them to use it to draw on the caterpillar’s body (or splodge it all over the white card as some of my little ones did!).
  • Give your little one the pieces of green card, paper etc and get them to stick them into place on the glue.
  • Once the pictures are dry you can then cut around them with the scissors to make them into a caterpillar shape. We have placed our caterpillars up on display in the playroom and the children love them!
