Fun Day Monday

Hiya, how are you? apologies for the late entry for this week’s Fun Day Monday, I’ve had trouble with my wifi connection! Anyway…… here it is, hope you like it & maybe even get inspired to create something fun by it.

Have you noticed how the summer holidays are fast approaching? For some families that means trips away so for my posts over the next couple of weeks I thought I’d share some things that I have made for my little one to keep them busy on our next road trip.

This week’s entry is dedicated to Mr. Potato Head!

This is not so much an activity to do with your little one but for them. I got the idea, and the template, from a blog called “Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows”. They had created a Mr. Potato Head page in a quiet book. I decided to make my potato head as a toy instead.

What I needed to make my potato head:

  • The template from Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows
  • Felt in assorted colours
  • Scissors
  • Threads in different colours (to match the felt)
  • Toy stuffing
  • Velcro
  • A potato bag (I bought mine in a shop called B&M for £1)

What I did:

  • I used the template to cut out the various felt pieces – cutting 2 for each item
  • I then sewed a small piece of velcro onto one of the pieces
  • Using a matching thread I sewed around the edge of the 2 pieces in a simple running stitch and then stuffed the piece before closing it up with more stitches
  • I did this for each item
  • For the main potato I sewed pieces of velcro in various positions for the eyes, ears, hat, nose, mouth and shoes (see picture below) and then sewed around the edges

I had planned to make my own drawstring bag to put the pieces into but when I spotted this potato bag in a local shop I knew it was perfect for keeping the game together.

So there we have it……. A felt Mr.Potato Head toy which is safe enough for little ones to play with in the back of the car when on a road trip.
