Firstly, this Saturday (3rd August) it’s Pollok Family Fun Day at Pollok Park. This is a free event held in the park from 10am to 4pm….. get down there, it’s lots of fun!

If you’re at a loose end on Sunday (4th August) then why not go to the Tramway Family Day: Albert Drive? From 12 noon to 4pm there will be lots going on all focusing on getting to know your neighbours on Albert Drive. For more information go to the Tramway website. This is a free event.

Finally, why not get involved with Playday 2013 on Wednesday 7th August. There are quite a few things going on across Glasgow and the surrounding areas but the event that grabbed my attention is one called Playful Places which is taking place at the Glasshouse at Queen’s Park from 12pm to 3pm. Activities will include Den building, Arts and Crafts, Animal Man, Commonwealth Games and much more!! All pre-5 children must be accompanied by an adult. Fun Day Monday

I think that the children in my service and I owe you all an apology….. it is our fault that the sun has gone and that it has been raining! We have been busy making rain sticks you see as part of our weather theme and we think we may have been shaking them a bit too much!

If you want to make a rain stick too you should visit this great blog called Happy Hooligans  which has lots of ideas for fun activities and things to do with your little one. The children had great fun making these and have had even more fun shaking them and up-ending them to make the rice and popcorn in the tubes trickle down.

If you have a go, have fun but please supervise your little ones when handling sharp items (such as the nails and drawing pins) and small items (such as the popcorn and rice).

Maybe this week we should make something to encourage the sun back out again!

What’s On Wednesday

If you go down to the woods today…………………………….

Don’t forget your teddy and don’t forget your picnic either! This is an outdoor event so dress for the weather!

Fun Day Monday

Hi there…. I hope you’ve all had a good week and that you have been enjoying the sunshine… we certainly have and have had allsorts of outdoor fun together.

For today’s post I thought I’d share an activity with you that you can either do inside or outside… it is a bit messy so you may want to do it outside!

If you want to try this activity with your little one you will simply need:

  • An assortment of toy cars and trucks (choose ones that you can wash easily afterwards)
  • Paints of assorted colours
  • Shallow trays (I used plastic fruit and vegetable trays that were in my recycling bin!)
  • Large piece of paper
  • Apron or old clothing

and all you need to do is:

  • Put the paint into the trays
  • Lay out the paper
  • Put the apron on your little one
  • Let your little one go for it by driving their vehicle in the paint and then onto the paper

This was such a fun activity and great for any reluctant painters and if you’re asking yourself what to do with the finished piece of art….. why not use it as wrapping paper for a special gift.

Have fun!

What’s On Wednesday

Have you heard the words, “I’m bored!” yet? If you have then why not take your little one along to the Avenue Shopping Centre at Newton Mearns for one of their FREE weekly entertainment sessions.

They have all sorts happening on Mondays to Thursdays from 12 noon to 4pm. This week they have got a soft play bus for the children to explore. In the following weeks they have cupcake decorating and craft workshops too…. lots of fun and definite boredom busters

Fun Day Monday

Well… what a weekend that was!

We’ve all gone a bit tennis mad in my childminding service and are delighted to be celebrating a British win! For today’s Fun Day Monday I thought you could celebrate too with a bit of balloon tennis…. apparently Andy Murray himself used to play this in his hallway when he was a little one too!

This is a very simple activity to set up and all you need is the following:

  • A balloon
  • 2 x paper plates
  • 2 x large lolly sticks/ tongue depressors
  • Glue/ Sticky tape

and all you need to do is:

  • Stick the lolly sticks/ tongue depressors to the plates
  • Allow to dry
  • Blow up the balloon
  • Clear a space and bat the balloon between the two paper plate rackets

We have also used fly swatters as rackets…. I managed to pick up a couple in a local £1 shop.

Whatever you use for your rackets… have lots of fun… why not make it a Wimbledon day and have strawberries and cream for your snack too.
