Fun Day Monday

Autumn is well and truly upon us and we have been doing allsorts of fun Autumn themed activities in my childminding service.

We have been collecting leaves, doing leaf rubbing art, painting  trees, making leaf shaped sun catchers to name but a few activities!

Why don’t you have a go at painting your own trees too:

You will simply need the following:

  • Brown paper
  • Scissors
  • Paper
  • Glue
  • Mixed colours of paint (we used red, yellow, green and bronze)
  • Cotton buds
  • Apron

and you do the following:

  • Firstly cut out a trunk with branches from the brown paper and give it to your little one to stick in place on the paper
  • Put the apron on your little one as they’re about to get messy with paint!
  • Let your little one paint different coloured dots all around the trunk and branches using the cotton buds – explain to your little one that they are painting the leaves. You can use this as an opportunity to talk about the colours of leaves at Autumn time and how the trees change

Another activity that we did was put together an Autumn sensory tray for the children to explore. In our tray we put the following:

  • Different shaped and sized leaves
  • Conkers
  • Pine cones
  • Pieces of bark
  • Sycamore leaves
  • Acorns

We had a great time feeling all the different things and trying to find words to describe them. We also did a bit of maths and put the leaves in order of size.

So far, Autumn has been a really fun season!!
