What’s On Wednesday

You are invited to come and play, build, enjoy a campfire and explore a free outdoor play space together on Glasgow Green by Baltic Street Adventure Playground a project by Assemble together with PEEK and Playbusters. You are advised to be prepared to get messy!!

This is part of Play Summita three-day event with artist Nils Norman and art & architecture collective Assemble, which considers the state of 
play in Scotland and beyond. There are free talks, workshops and discussions, and a symposium bringing together leading thinkers and practitioners working in play from around the world, along with play ventures from across Scotland. For more information please visit the Collective website here.

The Teddy Bear’s Picnic at Glasgow Museum Resource Centre

Bring along your teddy bear to GMRC on Monday 7th April from either 11am to 12 noon or 2pm to 3pm to have a picnic in the pods! Help find all the pieces from the picnic basket that have gone missing and then decorate a healthy little treat to go inside your very own picnic basket.  

This activity is free and is for Pre-5s and their carers.

It’s Family Friendly Weekend time at the Glasgow Museum Resource Centre again!

If you have no plans on Saturday March 29th and Sunday 30th March then why not pop along for some family fun.

You and your family can explore their vast collections and then have a go at crafts and activities inspired by their art, natural history and transport collections.  The half-hour tours are a great way to discover the weird and wonderful treasures housed in Glasgow Museums’ amazing object store.

To take part in these fun crafts and tours you can just drop in… there’s no need to book!

Join them on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th March with the Arts & Crafts at 11.00am – 1.00pm and 2.00pm – 3.30pm and the Tours at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm

Traditional Toys – Riverside Museum

Does your little one have a favourite toy? They are invited to choose their favourite toy in the toy shop at the Riverside Museum this weekend (15th and 16th March) before playing some traditional games and making their own unique toy to take home.

This is a free drop in session that will take place on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th March between 1.30pm-4.00pm.

Wee Write! Glasgow’s Book Festival for Children and Young People

This Saturday (8th March) there are a number of free drop-in activities taking place at the Mitchell Library as part of the Wee Write! Glasgow’s Book Festival for Children and Young People. There is no need to pre-book so you can just pop by and see what’s going on.

Play Talk Read Bus 

10am – 4pm

Hop on board a special double decker bus full of books, games
and activities for children.
Suitable for 0-7 years, drop in throughout the day

Bounce & Rhyme
11.30am – 12.15pm

Fun activity for parents/carers and children 0-2 years to enjoy, bringing action songs, rhyme-time and stories together!
Suitable for 0-2 years, limited capacity so arrive early

Gaelic Bookbug
1pm – 1.45pm

Rannan, Orain, Leabhraichean agus Cluiche ann an Gaidhlig.
Rhymes, songs, books and play in Gaelic.
Suitable for pre 5’s, limited capacity so arrive early

The Gallery of Modern Art is bringing its famous Saturday Art Club to Wee Write! Drop in to get creative with arty activities inspired by the authors and illustrators visiting us today.
Suitable for all ages, drop in throughout the day

Mitti: Our South Asian Roots 

Saturday March 8th – Scotland Street School Museum – 12pm to 4pm

Why not drop in to Scotland Street School Museum on Saturday March 8th between 12pm and 4pm to join them for this free family fun day celebrating Glasgow Museums’ new RENEW collection of art from South Asia. You will be able to see work from community projects based on this new collection as well as create your own art inspired by the new collection.

Throughout the day there will be family arts and crafts and performances including:

  • Object handling
  • Clay modelling
  • Blockprinting
  • Mirror-work coaster making
  • Performances on the hour or “Tea and Clay”

Light refreshments will be available.

The event and the new collection are supported through the Art Fund’s RENEW scheme with the assistance of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

Have you been to the Saturday Art Club at the Gallery of Modern Art lately?

This Saturday (22nd February) they have got a session all about boats inspired by the work of Ian Hamilton Finlay who is currently exhibiting in the gallery. Children will be building and decorating their very own boats….. sounds like fun

If you are looking for something to do this Saturday (15th February) then why not pop along to the Rouken Glen Park Pavilion between 1pm and 4pm to build your very own bird nest box to take home.

If you and your little one (Pre 5) are not up to anything this Saturday, 18th January, then why not head over to GMRC for a fun session all about space. 

“Children will take part in an exciting museum tour and then make their own space rocket.”
